The End of a Slightly Above-Average Season for the Chicago Baseball Team

Oh, there’s two, you say? Not the way I see it lol.

Let’s revisit my preseason prediction, which I have no way to really prove to you that I actually believed in this from the beginning, but humor me: I believed that with the addition of Swanson and getting Bellinger on a prove-it deal, we would be frisky at best, with maybe an outside shot of making the postseason. I knew Stroman was who he was and was hoping for development coming from other pitchers on the rotation. Overall, I just wanted to see us maybe break .500.

All in all, this season exceeded those expectations. I like Morel a lot, he’s an electric spark off the bench, gives us almost like a Javy-like shot of energy. Steele pitched lights-out outside of a couple starts, he has definitely made himself a known ace around the league and I’m excited to see how he’ll follow up his Cy Young Top 3 finish next year. I’m upset at the realization that Belli might not be coming back for this upcoming season. He was arguably the best player on the team and I’m sure most of Wrigleyville would love to see him in that uniform out in CF or at first again. But the Cubs show us constantly that we’re broke! Pete Crow Armstrong will probably be seeing more playing time next year too, honestly the other prospects will probably be given the chance to show us what they got next year.

Quick shoutout to the unsung hero of this year, Yan Gomes. He had a lot of timely hitting and it felt like he was a major presence as a veteran leader in the clubhouse.

This damn team got my hopes up man. The sweep against the Giants had me fooled, but going 7-15 since then in a tight race was never going to work out. This bullpen needs to improve in order for this team to be worth a damn this next season.

That’s all I got. Who do I think will win it all? Idk probably the Braves again.

The Chicago Cubs piss me off but I always miss them when they’re gone :/
