The/MY Chicago Cubs made a move

When I tell you I was shocked while looking down at my phone on the way to work to find that the Cubs straight-up POACHED Craig Counsell off of our rival team and simultaneously relieved the crowd-favorite personality that is David Ross, I am telling you the truth. So many thing went on through my little brain: how the late-season collapse was probably what damned David to this untimely fate, how a better option presented itself with a roster that arguably outplayed their expectations a few times over and the organization, while sometimes dormant, has made a move like this in the past, which leads me to believe… we’re all in?
I’m in. The Cubs had 3 Gold Glovers, saw an ex-MVP make a massive resurgence, had the whole city all riled up until the bitter end, and the team has a farm system that is panning out after the excruciating pain that was the trade deadline of 2021. If I were Craig Counsell, why wouldn’t I want to take the job in Chicago? Plus, in a clubhouse full of young swagger, how can you deny the boost of a manager that used to stand like this??

Part of me feels bad about David Ross. He was brought into a situation that would be tough for anyone to succeed. How could anyone follow up Joe Maddon taking the organization to the ultimate glory after 100+ years of nothing but #pain? I think he did a slightly better than OK job at handling the day to day operations of the team and giving us fans a good enough product and a reason to show up to the stadium with some sort of hope through these weird years, but going into the last few weeks with a 92% probability to make the postseason only to choke it alway kind sets you up to not look so good in comparison to others looking for a new place to settle into. I appreciate David Ross and I’m sure that he’ll be very successful in whatever it is that he endeavors into next.

So now I wait in anticipation to find out what we do next. Do we break the bank on either Soto from San Diego or reach out to the almighty Shohei? You can never have too much pitching and I’m hoping next season we can see some improvement from our middle relief and maybe one more dependable starter. In a perfect world I would also love to see Cody Bellinger come back to the north side. Whatever it is, I’m in. We’re back up!!
