We Now Know What We Should Have Always Known (again)

It was foolish of us to think anything would be different. We were misled and blinded by our own naive hope and unrealistic expectations that developed during the offseason. The Bears have once again pissed away an opportunity to prove competence with a prospective young quarterback and a clean slate for a roster sheet. I side heavily with those of us that are calling for an early consideration to tank for the #1 (and hopefully also #2) overall pick and select the young man from USC, someone who is primed up to change a professional franchise. But alas, it would be another wasted career, waste of our precious time on God’s green Earth, and yet another clown show for all of our haters to revel in.
I don’t understand how a team that, due to their own efforts, was proudly stamped as the worst in the league the year before and handed the first overall draft pick could possibly show up and fall short of their already dwarfish goals. There is no inspiration given by the coaching staff, no galvanizing voice amongst the men that dress for the games, and our patience has expired as of the previous weekend.
Claypool may have bought himself some time with a display that few can deny as being anything short of commendable. A bit late for his first Bears TD, but I’ll give him credit where it’s due: he tried to block this time. I have no idea what Kmet is doing, I think his moment of being the hometown kid has grown sour in our mouths as his clumsy play makes me wonder why Robert Tonyan isn’t ahead of him on the depth chart. I have run completely out of excuses for Justin Fields. It is taught at a very young age to take what the defense gives you and to make sure the defender that you’re reading always makes the wrong decision. There isn’t anything crazy that they’ve thrown at him defensively, the secondary and linebackers sit back in pretty standard zone coverage while their front 4 get home every single time - honestly, I think Getsy is getting too much of the blame. My theory is that the constant screens are more of an indictment on JF1’s lack of confidence in himself to stick in the pocket for 3 seconds to make the quick reads that he needs. Is he talented? Hell yeah he is. That dude can throw the ball over the mountains! But what good is that if he can’t manage an offense and be the dude that we can count on?
The defense is atrocious outside of our two linebackers we acquired during the offseason. If not for them, we wouldn’t have even been somewhat within striking distance before the untimely pick 6 that doomed us to our 0-2 start. I believe that the Bears have 1 sack so far this season? Not gonna cut it. I, myself, could look like John Elway if I had the time our D-line is giving everyone. It’s pathetic.
2 weeks into this young NFL Season and I’m already looking forward to another Cubs collapse these upcoming weeks before I tuck my head in for the following months in embarrassment. I don’t think I can bring myself to pay for the privilege of seeing this team lose in-person when they visit the Chargers at the end of October, which is really a shame. My prediction for next week: Chiefs 42 - Bears 6.
I hate this sport.
